Alternative Workstyles

Looking into Gulker's studyCLONMEL HOTSPOT -- The Irish government is soliciting ideas about the workplace of the future. It's also a topic I'm exploring in my Mass Communication and Computers course. I often think that my usage of blogging--to track items for follow-up and collaboration at the moment of their gestation--will be utilised by some of my students. Dave Winer often talks about toggling over to his blog and using it as a note-taker. From the acerbic tone of some of the writing (and the comments they elicit), one could learn to moderate their blogging output.

That's the lesson I've taken from Chris Gulker, who continues to run a open window into his tinkerings through his blogging. I stumbled onto Gulker in 1997, which meant he had a presence more than a year before that. The senior citizens of blogging can teach us about alternative work techniques. They range from mid-twenties to late-50s and are more prolific and insightful than many of their traditional colleagues.
