RSS on mobile phones

ONE FAST WAY to watch the babbling among Irishblogs is to pull them onto your mobile phone as RSS feeds. I first started doing this with my Bloglines (free), then LiteFeeds (free) and now FreeNews ($19.95 annually). Each of these services has strong points but three points arose while testing them on the Nokia 9500 and SonyEricsson P910i. One big thing that often flows by without due regard is once you figure out how to port information into your hands, you can operate much more efficiently while away from a fixed desk loction. Here are some of the things I've noticed after testing these technologies for several months while mobile.

1. FreeNews downloads faster and with less network cost than any other service I've used.
2. The Nokia 9500's implementation of Java midlets leaves gaps in the way LiteFeeds works. Specifically, LiteFeeds on my Nokia 9500 is useless when trying to read information from Blogger sites.
3. If you're addicted to mobile data, you need to have more than one source plus you really should manage your RSS feeds as OPML because there are sync problems and fail-over issues you must anticipate when away from your desktop.
