Web 2.0 Lives in Cork

Opening IT@CorkIT@CORK have an afternoon of speakers talking about Web 2.0 today. It's not an O'Reilly conference but the speaker line-up promises good value for time. It's a free industry event proudly sponsored by Microsoft and attended by around 90 web professionals who took seats around me just before the opening presentations. On the Flickr back-channel, more than 10,000 people had viewed the "cease and desist" letter that CMP Media kindly sent to the conference organisers to advise them that the Web 2.0 belonged to them. Shel Israel, Salim Ismail, Fergus Burns, Walter Higgins and Rob Burke are speaking in a fast-paced agenda split by free coffee, tea and sparkling water. Outside, the 24 degree sunshine explains why some seats are vacant in the comfortable meeting room. There's plenty of bottled water on tables for those assembled for the afternoon event. I can't help but think that the speakers are demonstrating things that many in the audience will only start using a few years from now.

IT@Cork runs proper events. Hat tip to Catherine Wall and the team. See pictures of more IT Cork events in the Flickr photostream.
