An Oath from the Second of June

THE SECOND OF JUNE holds special significance for me, as my Facebook timeline suggests.
I uttered some special words on June 2, 1976. “I, Bernard Francis Goldbach, having been appointed a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the office upon which I am about to enter. So help me God.”
I've walked the Air Force Academy grounds three times since graduating from there and now live a life far removed from the Rampart Range of Colorado. A fellow classmate, Mark Welsh, is set to become the next Chief of Staff of the Air Force. He deserves the top job but I have more flying hours than he's logged (easy to do when you're a transport pilot).
