This $80,000 luxury hybrid car, manufactured in the USA, is battery-powered with an on-board electric motor used to recharge the lithium-ion batteries. The Karma can travel 200 kph, consistenly. It can hit 96 kph in 5.8 seconds, equivalent to the performance of a gasoline-powered V8 sports sedan. You can pre-order this car for just $1000.
It has a four-cylinder engine up front with a monster of a generator to power the battery bank. The high-performance batteries can easily take me to and from work on a daily commute, needing a charge after the day is finished.
Fisker may beat GM, Toyota and Chrysler to the market with their plug-in hybrids because those larger manufacturers are working with unfinished designs.
