Russ Beattie got a Mac Mini and immediately took it apart. After he posted the autopsy online, his knowledgeable readers suggested things that deserve mentioning in every Mac FAQ file.
- Mac Mini comes with two USB 2.0 ports and you can use them for things like the Belkin 4 port USB 2.0 hub which is located on the mac mini accessories page.
- Every OS X user should drag their Applications folder into the dock. It will stick if you put it in the area near the trash can. Now when you hold the mouse down on the Applications folder icon in the Dock you will get something like a "Start Menu."
- Go to blacktree.com and download Quicksilver immediately. Most people who try it love the ability to tell their Mac exactly what they're looking for and have it be responsible for keeping track of where things are.
- Change the Finder preferences to not show drives (hard disks, CD-ROMS, network mounts) on the desktop, but only on the sidebar (where they appear by default). If you don't, each time Finder adds/removes a desktop icon, everything you have dropped there moves around.
- Look for new Mac programs by clickingthe blue apple (upper left corner) and select: "Mac OS X Software". It opens a browser that takes you to Apple site with the list of (almost) all Mac programs.
